About me
Hey! I'm M, or surreal-m.
I'm an undergraduate uni student in Sydney studying microbiology and medical science. I'm really into furry stuff, music, as well as computer stuff (although i'm not very good at it).
I'm especially interested in microbiology, antibiotic resistance, pathology, infectious disease, and human anatomy. I want to start writing some stuff about that but i'm really busy with school right now. (ยด~`)
I'm planning to go on to do honours and perhaps get into research in the future! It's all very exciting but uncertain right now.
Other than bio/med, i'm also interested in computer stuff, and picked up a bit of programming throughout my schooling, although i'm still quite novice. But its still quite fun learning how to do more and more things. I learnt python, LaTeX, the basics of web stuff, and how to use a cli while procrastinating in high school.
I've mainly been doing data science stuff with R and python (i want to pick up julia as well) to do statistics. It makes the whole process (marginally) less painful lol. It is still very satisfying to get a project working though so it isn't all doom and gloom.
Hobbies
As for furries, i would say i got introduced to the fandom when i got internet access and found the animation community on youtube. I quickly started watching animation meme videos and got immediately thought it was the coolest thing. The cute animations along with the music were like crack to my child brain. I then later found out about the furry fandom and sort of naturally got into it.
I'm not really active on social media other than following artists i like and talking to irl friends (i've always been very shy, even online). So if anyone wants to make a new friend hit me up! :)
I'm a massive fan of msx's and Vylet Pony's music. I unknowingly have been listening to emma's music since i was young just from being around on that side of the internet. It's practically impossible not to have heard at least one alias' music, like Kitsune^2, Renard, Jackal Queenston, KITCALIBER etc. Some time in high school when i really got into the fandom i (re)discovered their music and kind of got obsessed (i still am tbh, the lore goes deep) (also check out their DOOM stuff). More recently i heard Vylet Pony's ANTONYMPH and it immediately hooked me, so i decided to listen more and now i have a new artist to obsess over lol.
I mainly play TF2 and Celeste, although not as much as i want to because i've been super busy with school. I've been obsessed with TF2 ever since primary school when my friend showed me the Meet the Team animations back in 2009 or something, and i was hooked. I started playing Celeste around the end of high school and I don't think i've connected to a story more than i have with that game and the soundtrack. Especially at that time of my life (which i still don't fully understand). So it's probably one of the most special pieces of media to me.
Web
I made this webpage both as a fun project, and also as a way to put myself out there because i never really connected with normal social media. I'm quite a private person so it's very strange putting myself out there like this, but its also fun in a new way. I've always been quite anxious, so i never really existed on social media, so this is a nice midpoint. Plus, i've always wanted to make a website and have a bit of the web for myself so neocities provided an opportunity that i couldn't ignore. It's also a neat creative project. I've never been good at art or creative writing so i've kind of ended up ignoring creative ventures like that, but making a site has been a pretty cool creative outlet.
I got quite excited and jumped to draft up a website that i never though about what i'm going to fill it with so it's become a place where i dump some stream of consciousness writing so bare with me while i cook something up lol.
There are a lot of really cool creative people on neocities so please do go check them out.
And consider making your own webpage if you haven't. Normal social media has been slowly taking away all ways to customise and personalise our online presence, and, especially for people in arts, that's a massive loss. Why let a few companies control this massive part of our modern lives? Having a way to express ourselves is fun, and we spend a lot of our time online, so a website is a natural extension of that.
Also, making a website is fun!
