Halley Labs
You can find em's music through their Bandcamp and their older music free to download through their Back Catalogue on their website.
If i didn't link to a bandcamp page here it's probably in em's Back Catalogue!
I've been listening to em's music for a very long time, and especially in recent years have really gotten into their music and fallen down the rabbit hole. I don't think i've found an artist anything close to em, and i don't feel like i ever will. If you don't think you've heard em's music if you've been on the internet for the past 15 or more years, you're probably wrong!
Their music sort of defined my music taste, and especially as i got way more into their music a few years ago, introduced me to a few genres of electronic music. Although it isn't just their music that got me so interested, but their use of many different aliases when producing and publishing music. Each alias has a unique sound that fans will be able to recognise, each representing a genre(s) that em produces music through. They also commonly appear together in collaborations when em wants to fuse their styles.
Funnily enough, most people probably know em, not by name, or through their label Halley Labs (or the older lapfox trax), but through an alias, especially the more famous like Renard, Darius, KITCALIBER, Kitsune², Mayhem, The Quick Brown Fox, Furries in a Blender/Emoticon, Bandetto, Rotteen, Truxton, Jackal Queenston, HALLEY HARD SOUND UNIT, greenhouse, etc. I can go on listing them for a lot longer.
The more you listen, the better you will get to know each alias' music, and probably find your favourites too!
Mine include:
-
Renard — obviously. his music is just straight up so fun, and never fails to make me smile and
get me energetic. Probably the most famous of the aliases, especially with the album Because Maybe. He makes breakcore raggacore fusion,
and self-described "dogshit".
My favourite albums of his would have to include Because Maybe, Broken Core, Rainbow Dash LIkes Girls, Intensive Care Unit, Trauma, and NO..
- greenhouse — I listened to their music almost religiously during my first year of university, and it sort of became my soundtrack that year. There's just something so unique about it, and i love it. My profile picture is actually from some art from _SNDWRK/gh. They make IDM, breakcore, and more experimental stuff.
- The Quick Brown Fox — Holy shit. Insane speedcore. Their music gives me infinite energy. if you haven't, you HAVE to listen to NERVE'S ENDING.
- Mayhem — She makes some great EDM. You'll have a blast listening to her latest album Washed Out. One of the first aliases i listened to and still one of my favourites.
- Kitsune² — Cute rat boy :). Produces some great chiptune, and made probably one of the most well known albums Squaredance! If you've existed on the internet in the last 16 years you've definitely heard at least Rainbow Tylenol from this album! Kitsune² released a new album recently too: Unrealistic Project Roadmap. Take a listen!
- Rotteen — She makes some great hardcore, and is probably one of my most listened to aliases. Her albums The Recovery of the Absolute Artifact and it's an EP are probably my favourites.
- HALLEY HARD SOUND UNIT aka HHSU — They make some really cool hardcore, and have one of the coolest designs out of all of em's aliases, being three separate deer Cambium, Xylem, and Heartwood that are inhabited by a parasitic flora, existing together with a shared intelligence. I love their album NULL NOTE HEAD, or 𝅙.
- KITCALIBER — One of my favourites. A duo of Kit (she/her) and Caliber (he/him), which both produce hardcore. I can't decide if i like their album D.FREQ.CRUSH or HALCYONDAZE more.
I could keep going. But yeah. Do listen to their music, maybe you'll get sucked in like me.
